Grief and trauma online training for new therapists

Hi, I'm Marisol. I teach the grief work the way I wish someone had taught it to me.

I'm a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor in Texas, and every week I sit with new therapists who are wondering what to say to a grieving client and how to navigate when traumatic grief shows up in the session. My workshop and 7-week course give you practical answers you can bring into your very next session.

Why I teach this

Most graduate counseling programs provide minimal preparation in grief. Far fewer walk you through what to say and do when a grieving client is sitting right in front of you, and that is usually where hesitation and second-guessing your words start. If that sounds familiar, rest assured you are not alone. It's simply a gap in traditional training, not a reflection of your care or skill.

I built the SHIFT Framework to help fill that gap. It's a five-phase structure for grief sessions, grounded in trauma-informed and somatic care, with language you can actually use with clients. Everything I teach comes from real sessions and the questions my supervisees bring me each week, so you can put what you learn to work right away.

Meet Marisol

Marisol Garza, M.S., LPC-S

Hi, I'm Marisol Garza, a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor based in Texas. I earned my Master of Science in Counseling in 2006 and have served clients in community settings since 2017 and in private practice since 2020. I supervise associates working toward full licensure, so I spend much of my week helping new therapists navigate the same clinical challenges we cover in these trainings.

My advanced clinical approach is grounded in specialized training, including Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Advanced EMDR Training with Flash and Four Blinks protocols, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Somatic Therapy. I am also a Certified Grief Educator and Grief Movement Guide, and I see individual clients in my own private practice.

I created the SHIFT Framework as the practical guide I wished I'd had when I first started out, and I'm glad to share it with you here.

Who these online trainings are for

Newly licensed therapists in their first few years of practice, pre-licensed therapists, and graduate-level counseling students. No prior specialization in grief or trauma is required or expected!

If you've been in practice for over five years or already have specialized grief and trauma training, much of this will cover ground you already know well. Both trainings are strictly for professional education and skill-building. These trainings do not constitute therapy or clinical supervision, and they do not offer CE credits.

Not sure where to begin? Start with the 90-minute online workshop on Saturday, October 24th.
